Women's Soccer Ends Season in MIAA Quarterfinal

ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Adrian College women's soccer team picked up the fifth seed in the MIAA and traveled to Trine University for a quarterfinal match against the No. 4 seeded Thunder. The Bulldogs and Thunder battled all 90 minutes, but a late Trine goal was the decider as the Bulldogs fall 1-0.

"Any time your season comes to an end it's disappointing, but the performance tonight was worthy of a tight tournament matchup," said head coach Ali Alamdari. "Our backs held strong and kept a potent Trine attack off the board longer than anybody has all season."

It wasn't even a full year since the Bulldogs played in an MIAA quarterfinal. Due to COVID-19, the MIAA played its conference season in the spring of 2021. This season, Adrian faced injuries forcing the players to step up and fill rolls and having to adjust on the fly.

"Every season brings its own set of challenges, but we are especially proud of how much growth this group showed over the course of the year and we can't wait to continue this building process over the off-season," Alamdari said.

The Bulldogs and Thunder had their opportunities in the first half, but neither team could find the back of the net. Adrian totaled four shots with none on goal in the first half while Trine recorded six shots with two on goal. The Bulldogs saw some better opportunities in the second half putting two shots on goal, but couldn't get one past the Trine goalkeeper. Adrian recorded six more shots in the second half.

With time winding down, Trine broke the silence and found the back of the net in the 88th minute. The Thunder were able to hold on a grab a 1-0 victory ending the Bulldogs' season.

Adrian will return to action next season after graduating multiple seniors.

"This group of seniors has led us through some of the greatest moments in our program's history," said Alamdari. "They left every bit of themselves on the field today and can hold their heads high on a job well done over their careers. They have represented Adrian College well from start to finish."
