UTICA, N.Y. -- The Adrian College men's hockey team looked to bounce back after an overtime loss on Saturday night and come away with a win against the Pioneers from Utica College. The Bulldogs were able to score late and grab a road win at 4-3 with the help of a late goal from
Chase Spencer.
Utica jumped on the board early with a goal to lead with just over a minute played in the game. Freshman
Ryan Pitoscia found the back of the net later in the period on assists from
Hunter Wendt and
Ty Enns to tie the game at 1-1. Utica grabbed the lead again at 2-1 to go up before the first intermission.
The Pioneers extended their lead in the second after taking advantage of a Bulldog penalty to lead 3-1. Wendt responded with his own power play goal later in the period to put Adrian within one. Just over a minute later, Enns put the puck past the goaltender to tie the game at 3-3.
After a third period defensive battle,
Chase Spencer got ahold of the puck near the right boards and was able to sneak in the game winner with under two minutes to play in the third period. Spencer netted the first goal of the weekend on Saturday, and finished off the weekend with the last one.
Adrian finishes the weekend with a 1-1 record over the tough Utica Pioneers while missing 10 of their players due to COVID-19 protocols. Sunday's afternoon battle marks the fifth consecutive game between Adrian and Utica that resulted in a one goal decision.
The Bulldogs went 30-of-59 on the faceoff on Sunday including 12 wins from Pitoscia, 10 from
Zach Goberis, and eight from
