FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team opened the season on the road at Marian University to kick off NCHA conference play. The Bulldogs came away with a 6-2 victory led by a hat trick from
Mathew Rehding.
In the first period, Rehding got to scoring going for Adrian with a goal at 4:06 to lead 1-0.
Zachary Heintz and
Sam Ruffin recorded assists on the play. Marian tied the game with nine and a half minutes to go, but it was much later until
Grant Baetsen gave the Bulldogs the lead again off a pass from
Trevor Coykendall and
Jacob Breckles.Â
With just under two minutes played in the second period, Ruffin and
Ayodele Adeniye found Rehding again to go up 3-1 which resulted as the score after two periods of play.
Marian started the third period with an early goal to put them within one, but
Alessio Luciani scored on the power play to go up 4-2.
Hunter Wendt recorded his third assist of the season on the goal. With just over six minutes to play in the game, Rehding took matters into his own hands scoring an unassisted goal to lead 5-2 and record the hat trick.
Rex Moe later added an empty net goal to lock up the 6-2 win.
Cameron Gray recorded his first win of the season with 19 saves and two goals allowed.
The Bulldogs return to action looking to sweep Marian on Saturday, November 13 at 5:30 PM EST.
