ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian men's basketball team opened its 2021-22 campaign in the comfort of its home gym this past weekend. The Bulldogs were able to bounce back from a competitive loss on Friday to seal a win against Manchester on Saturday.
This week, the 'Dogs pack their bags for what will ultimately be a five-game road trip, beginning on Wednesday at Earlham College.
The Quakers (0-2), products of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC), were tabbed to finish ninth in the conference's preseason poll, two spots below Manchester.
Through its first two games of the season, Earlham is averaging the second-most blocked shots (4.0) and steals (9.5), and third-most assists (15.0) in HCAC.
Jordan Goodson, who leads the Quakers with 14.5 points per contest and 10 total rebounds, also paces the league with 3.0 blocks per outing.
Kolden Vanlandingham, Anthony Phillips, and Jaden Terry are also averaging in double-figures for Earlham, scoring 13.5, 12.0, and 11.5 points per game, respectively.
Wednesday's game is slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
Then, on Saturday, the Bulldogs travel to Ohio for a MIAA/OAC crossover event.
Adrian's first Ohio Athletic Conference opponent will be the University of Mount Union.
The Purple Raiders (2-0) are rolling off of a 60-point rout of Saint Vincent (Pa.) last Wednesday.
The team is sporting six different players with double-digit scoring averages, including Christian Parker, who is averaging 15.0 points per game in only 13.5 minutes per outing. The sophomore guard is shooting 75-percent from the floor while also ranking second on the team with 14 total rebounds.
Bradon Poole (14.5 ppg) is covering all kinds of ground for the Purple Raiders, actively leading the team with 16 rebounds and five steals. He has also dished out two assists.
The Bulldogs and Mount Union last met back on November 23, 2019 in Adrian. The home side won that affair, 80-77, snapping a three-game drought to the boys in purple.
The black and gold then conclude their crossover stay on Sunday versus Muskingum.
The Muskies (1-0) won their season-opener over Kenyon, 75-53.
Alex Masinelli led the winners with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field and a 6-of-7 effort from the foul line.
M.J. Smith connected on four buckets from beyond the arc en route to 14 points to go along with six rebounds.
As a team, Muskingum limited Kenyon to just 25-percent from the floor, including 2-for-28 from 3-point territory.
The Muskies may have a harder time duplicating that performance against an Adrian (1-1) team that combined to shoot 44-percent from the field over its opening weekend.
De'Ovion Price and
Connor Pelham showed out for the locals in their first two games.
Price, a freshman, averaged 18.5 points per game, while Pelham recorded back-to-back double-doubles.
Jalen Paul was Adrian's primary dime-dropper, feeding an MIAA second-best 11 assists. The senior was also one of four Bulldogs to come up with multiple steals over the weekend.
Both of this weekend's game are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Live stats and video will be available for all three of week's contests.
