Bjelland Strikes Twice to Put Women's Hockey Ahead of Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. -- After a 7-1 victory the night before, the Adrian College NCAA women's hockey teams kept game two of the series against the Trine University Thunder a little closer. After trailing 2-1 after the first period, the Bulldogs battled back and came away with the 5-2 victory. Adrian remains perfect in the all-time series against Trine as they now hold a record of 16-0.

It wasn't long into the game where the Bulldogs got on the board. Karmen Anderson scored 56 seconds into the game to lead 1-0. Abbie Grias and Annika Hanson recorded assists on the play. That was all the offense for Adrian in the first as they were held scoreless the rest of the period. Trine scored on a power play to tie the game at 1-1 followed by a goal with less that 30 seconds remaining in the game to lead Adrian 2-1.

The Bulldogs came out of the locker room ready to regain the lead. Grias found the back of the net on an unassisted goal to tie the game 2-2. With under a minute to go in the period, Brooke Schembri gave the Bulldogs the lead again making it a 3-2 lead. Grias recorded her second assist and third point of the night, and Jocelin Hudanish added an assist.

In the third, it was the Une Bjelland show. Bjelland extended the lead unassisted to 4-2 with plenty of time left in the game. Late in the period, Emma Corbett found Bjelland for another goal to lead 5-2 which came short handed. Adrian went on to grab the 5-2 win and sweep the weekend series over the Thunder.

Gwen Bowler made her first career start for the Bulldogs in goal allowing the two goals in the first period and shutting out the Thunder the rest of the way. She recorded the win in goal and made 20 saves.

Adrian will take a few weeks off before heading up to Northfield, Vermont for a tournament featuring four top-10 teams in the country. The Bulldogs will take on Norwich University on Saturday, December 11 at 4:00 PM and will either face Elmira or Plattsburgh the following day.
