NORTHFIELD, VT. - On the first day of the Northfield Savings Bank East-West Classic, hosted by No. 10 Norwich University, the homestanding Cadets defended their ice against the eighth-ranked Adrian women's hockey team, defeating the Bulldogs 4-2.
The home side pushed across two second period goals after heading into the first intermission knotted at 1-1, capping a run of three-straight tallies after Adrian had grabbed the early one-goal advantage.
Jocelin Hudanish notched the first goal of the 2021 Classic off of a shorthanded opportunity just over three minutes into the contest.
Karmen Anderson was credited with her fifth assist of the season on the Bulldog goal.
Then, later in the frame, Norwich garnered a second powerplay chance, and this time it would be the Cadets finding the back of the net to draw the score level.
In the third period, trailing 3-1, Adrian pulled itself back within striking distance on a goal by
Callie Wollschlager, her third of the 2021-22 campaign.
Reaghan Pietrowski contributed the dime for the visitors, but the black and gold ultimately fell short of locking in an equalizer down the stretch.
Une Bjelland paced the locals on the shot chart, mustering a team-high five.
In the paint,
Sophie Goldberg made fourth start of the season, corralling 16 total saves on 20 shots faced.
Adrian will be back at Kreitzberg Arena tomorrow afternoon for the East-West Classic consolation game against No. 3 Elima. The Soaring Eagles dropped their semifinal contest to No. 4 Plattsburgh State, 4-3.
Sunday's match-up is slated for a 1 p.m. puck-drop, and will be viewable through the Norwich University live stream.
