ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's basketball team traveled down the road to Siena Heights University to compete against its crosstown rival. The Bulldogs and the Saints battled for the crosstown trophy known as the Milk Jug which Adrian was in possession of. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they were forced to give it up after a 73-69 loss to the Saints.
The Bulldogs have continued to battle injuries and illness over the past few weeks and saw some of the missing names back in the lineup. After the first half, Adrian was ahead 34-30 in a back-and-forth battle. After the first 20 minutes of play,
P'hariz Watkins,
Nick Seifert, and
Kendall Chrismon led with six points each followed by four from
De'Ovion Price and
James Clay.
The Bulldogs shot 43.8% from the field and only 27.3% from beyond the arch while Siena Heights shot 41.9% from the field and 22.2% from three.
Siena Heights outscored the Bulldogs in the second half by a score of 43-35. Adrian continued to space out the scoring with Price leading the second half with six points while Wakins, Clay,
Jalen Paul, and
Connor Pelham each recorded five.
After giving up the lead with a few minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs trailed by five which was quickly cut to a 1-point deficit with 11 seconds to go after a three from
Josh Rechsteiner. After an Adrian timeout, they were forced to foul and send Siena Heights to the line where they hit their late free throws to lock up the win.
Watkins led the Bulldogs with 11 points on the night followed by 10 from Price. Every member of the team that saw playing time added points to the 69 point total.
Adrian will look to regain possession of the Milk Jug next season when they play Siena Heights in the annual competition. The Bulldogs will have a week off before heading to Otterbein University for a nonconference match up on Wednesday, December 1 with a 7:00 PM tip-off.
