PLYMOUTH, Mich. -- The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team began its busy week on Wednesday night on the road in Plymouth, Michigan. The Bulldogs took on the USA U18 National Team Development Program (NTDP) for the second time this season. An goal filled second period allow USA to erase a 2-0 deficit which resulted in a 7-4 Adrian loss.
After one period of play, Adrian held a 1-0 lead with a goal from
Trevor Coykendall.
Grant Baetsen and
Jacob Breckles picked up assists.
It was an eventful second period with six total goals. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead on Coykendall's second goal of the night. USA U18 NTDP made it a one goal game 40 seconds later. USA went on to tie the game on during an Adrian penalty kill, and latered took the lead on another power play. With Adrian trailing 3-2,
Ty Enns found the back of the net to make it a tie game. With three seconds remaining in the period, USA took advantage of an opportunity and headed into the second intermission with a 4-3 lead.
It wasn't long until Adrian answered in the third period as
Zach Goberis found the net on a pass from
Matus Spodniak to tie it 4-4. With four minutes to go in the game, USA went top shelf and regained the lead 5-4. With 1:39 remaining, a close goal that forced review resulted in a 6-4 lead for USA which was shortly followed by an empty net goal to lock up the USA win.
Cameron Gray got the start in goal facing 31 shots and making 25 saves.
Adrian will return to action on Saturday, November 27 when they begin the trip to Connecticut. The Bulldogs will face Wesleyan University at 7:00 PM.
