No. 1 Men's Hockey Takes Down No. 2/4 Augsburg with Help of Ty Enns Hat Trick

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 1 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team hosted Augsburg University on Thursday night coming away with a 5-2 victory. The Auggies rank No. 2 in the Pairwise Rankings and No. 4 in the USCHO Coaches Poll while the Bulldogs rank No. 1 in both. Ty Enns led Adrian past Augsburg with a hat trick as Adrian came away with the 5-2 victory.

Enns started the scoring in the first period scoring on a power play to take a 1-0 lead. Jacob Breckles and Rex Moe recorded assists on the goal. Alessio Luciani extended the lead to 2-0 on a shorthanded goal. Luciani went to make a pass across the crease, but it trickled off the back of the goalie and into the net late in the first period.

With a 2-0 lead at the start of the second period, Moe recorded his second point of the game putting Adrian up 3-0. Jaden Shields and Terry Ryder picked up assists. Augsburg responded quickly putting the deficit back at two goals making it a 3-1 game with plenty of time to play. The Auggies struck again on a power play to make it a one-goal game which was shortly answered by a power play goal from the Bulldogs off the stick of Enns to make it a 4-2 game at the second intermission.

Both goaltenders held strong in the third period as the score remained the same. The Bulldogs broke the third period silence in the final seconds as Enns recieved a pass from Sam Ruffin to put in the empty netter and complete the hat trick leading Adrian to a 5-2 victory.

The Bulldogs move to 11-1 on the season while Augsburg drops to 9-2. Cameron Gray got the start in goal for the black and gold totaling 20 saves on the night. After losing the first five face offs of the game, the Bulldogs finished the night with a 48-27 record from the circle with the help of 15 wins from Luciani and 13 wins from Ruffin.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday, January 2 as they take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio. Sunday marks the third outdoor game in program history for Adrian with the game beginning at 5:00 PM. The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team will also play that day at 1:00 PM as part of the Toledo Walleye Winterfest Games. Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased by clicking HERE.
