ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 2 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team (9-1, 6-0 NCHA) completed the weekend sweep over the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) (2-6-2, 1-4-1 NCHA) on Saturday afternoon. After trailing through the first half of the game, Adrian's offense picked up during the final 23 minutes of the game to pull ahead and sweep MSOE. With the help of a 25 save night from
Nic Tallarico in goal, the Bulldogs came away with a 6-1 victory.
It was long after the puck dropped that there was a goal on the board. Twenty-one seconds into the game, MSOEÂ found a hole over the shoulder of Tallarico to lead 1-0 early in the game. That was it for the Raiders as the Bulldogs went on to score six unanswered goals in route to the Saturday victory.
In the second period,
Ryan Pitoscia put Adrian on the board with a goal with 2:09 to play in the second period making it a 1-1 game. With under a minute to go,
Ayodele Adeniye and
Hunter Wendt found
Ty Enns to lead 2-1 before the end of the period to grab Adrian's first lead of the night.
Matt Couto scored 40 seconds into the third period on a pass from
Alessio Luciani and
Rex Moe to put Adrian ahead 3-1. Shortly after, Pitoscia won a face off for the Bulldogs which landed in front of
Trevor Coykendall who found the back of the net for the fourth time in the series after his Friday night hat trick. With a 4-1 lead, Moe snuck the puck around the MSOE goaltender to extend the lead giving Adrian its first power play goal of the night. Later in the third period,
Zachary Heintz found the netting off a deflected pass from Moe to make it a 6-1 game on another power play goal.
After only three penalties on Friday night, there were 18 on Saturday afternoon including three total five-on-three opportunities. MSOE went 0-for-7 on the power play while the Bulldogs finished 2-of-7 scoring on the final two power plays.
Adrian returns to the ice on Saturday, December 11 on the road for a neutral site game against No. 11 Wilkes University that will be hosted by Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, Pa. Saturday's game is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
