Women's Volleyball to Carry Road Trip into October

9/28/2021 11:00:00 AM

ADRIAN, Mich. - After a slate of home matches this past weekend, the Adrian women's volleyball team ventures away from the Merillat for three road contests this week.

The Bulldogs (4-10, 1-1 MIAA) open the week on Wednesday evening at Trine before a Saturday afternoon tri-match at Wilmington.

The Thunder (9-9, 1-0 MIAA) have completed eight matches over the last two weeks, going 4-4 during that stretch. Most recently, Trine secured its first conference win of the season versus Kalamazoo in a five-set thriller on Saturday.

Adrian and Trine share similar attacking-percentages entering their showdown. While the locals are hitting 0.158, the Thunder are right on their tail at 0.153.

Senior, Chloe Behm makes up a significant chunk of Trine's attack, sporting a conference eighth-best 0.328 attack-percentage. Aiding the Thunder offense is Olivia Jolliffe and her 205 total kills, which ranks second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).

After Wednesday's action, the black and gold have a pair of days off before traveling to Wilmington, Ohio for the season's second tri-match, featuring the host, Quakers, and the Student Princes of Heidelberg.

Adrian and the Berg (9-4) are all too familiar with one another, having just matched up last Friday at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center, in which the Student Princes overcame a two-sets to none deficit to shock the Bulldogs in five sets.

In that five-set nail-biter, Liana Petitti turned in a game-high 20 kills, while Sarah Oney led the way defensively with 22 digs.

The weekend then closes with Adrian challenging Wilmington on their home floor.

The Quakers (3-12) recently snapped an 11-game losing streak by defeating Defiance 3-1 on Saturday.

Wilmington is led by a trio of underclassmen, including freshman Andie Dolven who paces the team with 405 assists. Sophomores Sofia Thomas and Blake O'Brien lead the Quakers with 123 kills and 256 digs, respectively.

The Bulldogs enter the week after posting a 1-3 mark in four matches last week. Two of those losses were determined in five sets, while the lone victory came at conference-foe Saint Mary's.

During the week, sophomore Ayden Cribbs boasted a team-high 51 kills, including a career-best 23 against the Belles. Then, on Friday, junior Destiney Johnson turned a personal-best of her own, striking for 18 kills.

Hailey Farrell bumped her season assist total up to an MIAA fourth-best 460, and Mya Minjares remains one spot back of the conference lead in digs with 285 total on the season.

As of right now, live video will only be available for Wednesday's match at Trine, while live stats will be available for all three games. This is subject to change.
