LOUISVILLE, Ky. - At the Spaulding University Athletic Complex, the Adrian men's soccer team scored five unanswered goals, including four in the second half en route to its first win of the 2021 season, defeating Berea 5-1.
The Bulldog men (1-2) join the women's soccer team and women's volleyball who also tallied their first victories of the season over the Labor Day weekend.
A day after having five goals put up against them, four different Bulldogs found the back of the net, including a pair from
Dante Perri in the 51st and 57th minutes.
Alfonso Chirco,
Gary Davison and
Chris Czyz also scored for the black and gold, while
Aiden Leline,
Braiden Hamilton and Davison each chipped in assists.
The Mountaineers opened the scoring eleven minutes in off of a successful corner kick header by Junior Gyamfi.
Just as it was looking like Berea would head into the locker room with the advantage, Adrian found its equalizer off of a corner kick of their own.
Leline delivered a cross into the box that was met by the foot of Chirco, who redirected a shot off the crossbar and into the back of the net, tying the match at 1-1.
In the second frame, the locals needed only two minutes to take their first lead of the season, courtesy of a heads up play by Davison.
The Bulldogs would add two more scores over the subsequent three minutes, including two in a 41 second span.
Adrian finished the match with 15 total shots, outshooting the Mountaineers on goal 8-5.
Both
Alex Brock and
Jackson Vacca made appearances in net for the Bulldogs, each turning in a solid 45 minutes of action.
After splitting the weekend in Louisville, the locals are set to return to Docking Stadium on September 7 to host Defiance at 7 p.m.
