BEREA, Ky. - At the Seabury Center, the Adrian College women's volleyball team captured its first victory of the season, but could not complete the doubleheader sweep on the first day of the Berea Tournament.
The Bulldogs (1-2) recorded a four-set win over Rochester (Mich.) before dropping the nightcap to the host, Mountaineers in four sets as well.

Game 1 |
Adrian 3, Rochester 1 (25-23, 25-23, 19-25, 26-24)
A big push in the fourth set by the Bulldogs turned aside the Warriors chances at a comeback, leading Adrian to its first tally in the win column on the season.
The black and gold trailed Rochester by as many as six points in the deciding set. But then an 11-4 stretch capped off by an electric kill by senior,
Julia Bell pushed the locals in front for the first time in the frame, 17-16.
The Warriors did not go away quietly, however, restoring their advantage to 23-20 before Adrian charged back with a 4-0 run to reclaiming the edge.
The match would eventually meet its end after a
Lana Cox service stifled the Warriors' backline.
Katelyn Bergman,
Mallory Dorow and Bower each turned in 11 kills for the Bulldogs, while
Hailey Farrell dished out 42 assists.

Game 2 |
Adrian 1, Berea 3 (14-25, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25)
Adrian nearly did to Berea what Rochester almost pulled on them, but much like the previous match, the comeback did not hold up in the end.
After falling behind by two sets, the Bulldogs stole one back in the third frame, highlighted by a set-sealing five-point run after the Mountaineers had knotted it up at 20-20.
In the fourth, and ultimately final set of the night, Adrian's efforts were just shy of forcing a winner-take-all, fifth set.
Destiny Johnson, Bergman and Dorow contributed eights kills each against the hosts. Farrell, again, led the team with 32 dimes. Defensively, Dorow assisted on five blocks, whereas
Mya Minjares dug out a team-best 21 digs.
Adrian returns to the Seabury center on Saturday morning to complete the weekend tournament. The Bulldogs start off the day against Berea at 11 a.m. before wrapping up their stay versus Rochester at 1 p.m.
