Louwers Delivers the Overtime Winner as Adrian Defeats Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J. - At the Rowan Soccer Complex, Megan Louwers tapped home the overtime winner in the 100th minute to send the Adrian women's soccer team past the previously-unbeaten Profs.

After a foul committed by the hosts, Zoe Blanchard set up shop from just inside the centerline. The junior defender delivered the ball deep into the Bulldogs' attacking zone where it proceeded to ricochet off the head of the opposition. The deflection was met by Kelsey Zoli who, after getting a touch on the ball, lost possession on a collision with the Profs' goalkeeper. The loose change was subsequently gathered and tucked in the far corner of the net by Louwers who found herself in the right place at the right time.

The golden goal completes the weekend sweep for the locals after posting a 2-1 victory over Rutgers-Camden the day before.

The hosts took control of the match in the early goings, throwing chance after chance at Bulldog netminder, Taylor Fischer. But the sophomore stood her ground, stopping seven total shots on the evening and improving her shutout streak to 186 minutes.

At one point in the second half, it looked as though the visitors had found their tally when a corner kick was poked past the goal line. However, contact between two opposing players near the play erased the goal and sent the game back to 0-0.

The negated effort seemed to provided somewhat of a spark for the Bulldogs, as they locked down defensively over the closing minutes to force the extra time.

The overtime win for Adrian was the first since November 16, 2019 when Caroline Fleming scored in double overtime against Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

In all on Sunday, the Bulldogs managed 10 shots, including seven on net.

The women continue their current road trip on September 8 when they travel to Cleveland, Ohio to take on Case Western Reserve at 7:30 p.m.
