ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian women's volleyball secured its first victory of the season this past weekend in Kentucky, defeating Rochester 3-1. However, the Bulldogs would go on to drop their three subsequent matches, leaving their overall record at 1-4 entering this week.
The black and gold return to the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on Wednesday evening to host Bluffton. The Beavers got the better of Adrian last season, winning each of the team's two meetings.
The locals are led by the attacking duo of
Mallory Dorow and
Katelyn Bergman, who have tallied 47 and 41 kills, respectively.
Sophomore,
Hailey Farrell, who like Dorow and Bergman, has appeared in all twenty sets played for Adrian this season, paces the Bulldogs with 190 assists.
Farrell turned in three different performances of 40+ dimes this past weekend, including a 50-piece against Rochester on Saturday afternoon.
Bluffton (2-2) is coming off a trio of matches on their home floor over the weekend, but the Beavers were only victorious in the last match they played against Trine.
Senior, Cassidy Posey and junior, Kaylie Campbell have rallied off 30 kills each on the season for Bluffton. Posey has also recorded 10 blocks over four matches this campaign, a team-high.
After battling the Beavers, the Bulldogs will venture to Sandusky, Ohio for a first-of-its-kind crossover event with the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).
The recently-named "Battle at the Point" will feature the entire NCAC and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) going head-to-head at the Cedar Point Sports Center.
Adrian will take on the College of Wooster on Friday afternoon, then Hiram College and Depauw University on Saturday morning.
That trio of opponents were each selected to place in the thick of the NCAC preseason coaches' poll.
While live stats and video will be available for Wednesday's home contest, live content for the weekend's festivities will be released later in the week.
