HANCOCK, Mich. -- After a 6-1 victory the night before, the No. 1 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team completed the sweep over Finlandia University by a score of 10-0.
Dershahn Stewart recorded his first career shutout in goal, and
Rex Moe led the offense with a 5-point afternoon with two goals and three assists. The Bulldogs move to 14-1 on the season and stay undefeated at 8-0 in NCHA play.
After a slow start offensivly,
Ty Enns grabbed the momentum with a goal halfway through the first period to lead 1-0.
Chase Spencer scored shortly after to grab a goal in his second consecutive game to lead 2-0. Moe found the back of the net to extend the lead followed by a power play goal from
Mathew Rehding to head into the first intermission with a 4-0 lead.
The defensive picked up in the second period from Finlandia only allowing one goal to Adrian in the period. Off assists from
Zach Goberis and Moe,
Connor May made it a 5-0 game halfway through the second period.
The Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas in the third as they exploded for five goals.
Jaden Shields started the period with a goal 28 seconds into play. Six minutes later,
Ryan Pitoscia scored a goal to lead 7-0 followed by two quick goals from
Zachary Heintz and Moe to lead 9-0. Goberis added the team's final goal at 11:05 in the third period to wrap up the 10-0 win.
Dershahn Stewart made his third start of the season and recorded his first shutout of his career. His defense helped him out as Stewart only needed to make seven saves due to Finlandia only putting seven shots on goal including zero in the first period.
Alessio Luciani recorded four assists on the day followed by three from Moe, and two from
Dante Spagnuolo. The team finished with 20 assists which ranks tied for sixth in program history. The Bulldogs set team season highs in points (30), goals (10), assists (20), shots (54), and penalty minutes (20).
Adrian will have a quick turnaround as they have two postponed games scheduled to be made up on Monday, January 17 and Tuesday January 18. Monday's game against Lawrence University will begin at 5:00 PM followed by a 2:00 PM start on Tuesday.
