Women's Hockey Dominates in the Glass City; Defeats Trine 6-1

TOLEDO, Ohio - On a chilly Sunday afternoon in downtown Toledo, the Adrian College women's hockey team contained the storm and defeated Trine University 6-1. The emphatic victory snapped a two-game winless-skid for the Bulldogs and put a cherry on top of their first-ever Winterfest experience.

"It's definitely going to be unforgettable experience," expressed head coach Shawn Skelly. "It was so delightful to see all the smiles on the players faces."

The designated home team on the scoreboard tallied each of its six scores over the first two periods, including a pair of impressive marks by Jessica VonRuden.

Karmen Anderson, who provided assists on each of VonRuden's goals, added one herself late in the middle frame, followed by unassisted breakaway conversion by Abbie Grias to close out Adrian's scoring.

The action at Fifth Third Field picked up early, as Lindsey Sorrell found a soft spot past the Thunder netminder to break the ice just over three minutes into the contest for her first goal of the season.

After a Trine counter attack to knot the score at 1-1, Aileena Dopheide found the back of the net only 77 seconds later to record the first goal of her career and restore the lead for the black and gold, who never looked back from there.

Zoe Lohrei made a strong case in her first career game for Adrian, contributing two assists. Sydney Daversa also chipped in a pair of dimes, while Jocelin Hudanish and Annika Hanson each finished with one assist.

Between the pipes, Sophie Goldberg was credited with the win after stopping seven shots over 40 minutes played. Gwen Bowler also saw time in the paint for the 'Dogs, entering in the second period and corralling ten saves.

Adrian (7-2-1, 4-0-0 NCHA) continues its second semester in Minnesota next weekend, beginning with a top 10 match-up at sixth-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College on Thursday.
