ADRIAN, Mich. -- The MIAA began its conference season on Wednesday for men's basketball while the Adrian College men's basketball team hosted the Olivet College Comets. The Comets came away with the victory on Adrian's home floor by a score of 92-85 with the help of two 20-point performances. The Bulldogs were led by
De'Ovion Price who finished the game with 28 points to lead all scorers.
The Bulldogs started the game hot jumping out to a 10-4 lead with baskets by
P'hariz Watkins and
Josh Rechsteiner. Olivet responded with a 12-0 run to take a 16-10 lead to force an Adrian timeout. The Bulldogs came out of the huddle with a quick basket from
Connor Pelham, but Olivet kept its foot on the gas and extended the lead to 11 with 9:45 left in the half. Price and
Andrew Larson began to take over bringing the deficit to four and the score to 29-25 with 6:30 to go in the half. Olivet boosted it back up to a nine-point lead before Price hit a three at the Buzzer to send the Bulldogs into the locker room trailing 39-33.
After a two-pointer from Watkins to start the half, Olivet sparked an 8-0 run to lead by 12. Adrian responded with a run of its own to bring the score to 51-48 with the help of baskets from Price,
Nick Seifert, and
Ben Pacer. The Bulldogs struggled to hold on as Olivet took its lead back to 11 with 13:40 to play. Adrian couldn't spark a run to get back in the game and was forced to foul late where the Comets finished the game perfect from the free throw line and lock up the 92-85 win.
Price's 28 points was a new career high for him with the help of five made three-pointers. Watkins finished the day with 15 points, six rebounds, and two steals, followed by 14 points with ten rebounds from Pelham.
Andrew Larson added ten points with seven rebounds on the night, and
Jalen Paul finished the game with 14 assists.
The Bulldogs return to action on the road as they travel to Kalamazoo Colleg to take on the Hornets in another MIAA contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
