ADRIAN, Mich. -- In men's basketball, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) is set to open the conference season this week. The Adrian College men's basketball team is set to take on Olivet College and Kalamazoo College to begin the conference season.
The Bulldogs have struggled to start the season coming into the week with a 1-10 record. Adrian's lone win came at home as they defeated Manchester University in the third game of the season by a score of 92-80. On the season so far, seven of the ten Adrian losses have come back ten or less points as they have been close in every game.
The Bulldogs come into Wednesday night's battle against Olivet scoring an average of 75.6 points per game while allowing 84.9 points per game. However, Adrian has shot well from the floor with a shooting percentage of 46%, but struggle beyond the arch with a three point percentage of 26.2%, and from the line with a free throw percentage of 58.7%. The Bulldogs have been out-rebounded by opponents as Adrian averages 32 rebounds again while its opponents average 39 a game.
Fifth-year senior
Connor Pelham leads the Bulldogs with 16.6 points per game in nine games this season. He is shooting 51.9% from the field to go along with an average of 7.9 rebounds per game with a team-high 14 steals.
De'Ovion Price returns after missing the last few games and averages 14.3 points per game in eight contests on the year.
P'hariz Watkins adds 10.7 points per game to the mix followed by 10.0 from
Andrew Larson who is also second on the team in rebounding with an average of 6.1 per game.
Olivet comes into Wednesday's contest with a record of 3-8 on the year. The Comets have scored an average of 73.0 points per game while allowing 77.9 points game this season. Kalamazoo also holds a 3-8 record on the year and is 1-4 on the road. So far this season, the Hornets have only scored an average of 69.2 points per game while allowing 76.5 points per game. Kalamazoo is currently on a 5-game losing streak, and has lost all five by double digit points.
Due to the cancellation of the Junior Varsity contest on Wednesday, the Bulldogs and Olivet will tip-off at 7:00 PM from the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center. On Saturday, the team will travel to Kalamazoo for its first MIAA road contest that is slatted to begin at 3:00 PM.
