MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - At the Augsburg Ice Arena, a two-goal first period by the homestanding Auggies proved to be too much for the ninth-ranked Adrian women's hockey team to overcome on Friday evening, leading to a second-straight loss for the black and gold.
Sydney Daversa and
Callie Wollschlager notched one goal a piece for the Bulldogs, while
Aileena Dopheide,
Kathryn Truban,
Une Bjelland and
Maya Roy each contributed an assist.
The locals showcased a stronger effort offensively than the previous night, producing 30 total shots in comparison to Thursday's nine. However, despite the improvement, the home side still finished with the edge in that regard by a mere one shot.
After falling behind 2-0 after one frame, the 'Dogs got off to quick start to begin the second period, as Daversa finished off a tic-tac-toe play from Dopheide and Truban to cut the deficit in half.
Under just a minute later, nevertheless, Augsburg came roaring back to restore its two-score advantage, eventually building the cushion to 4-1 midway through the third period before Adrian tallied another.
This time, a shot from just below the blue line by Roy was redirected on route by Wollschlager and past the Auggies' netminder, but the effort was too little, too late.
Daversa closed the contest with a team-high five shots.
Karmen Anderson and Roy followed up with four each.
In goal,
Gwen Bowler stopped 26 Augsburg shots.
The Bulldogs and the Auggies are set to go right back at it on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. EST to wrap up their weekend series.
