ADRIAN, Mich. – It was a tough battle for the Adrian College women's soccer team on Wednesday night as they played through high winds and rain. The Bulldogs also hosted No. 9 Calvin University at Docking Stadium. Calvin came in with a record of 12-0-0 which didn't stop Adrian as they handed the Knights a 0-0 tie.
The Bulldogs totaled only two shots on the night with one landing on goal. Calvin finished the night with 11 shots and two on goal. In the second half, Calvin had an opportunity to score, but
Taylor Fischer was there to make a jumping save and knocked the ball out of the box after hitting the crossbar.
Kelsey Zoli recorded a shot for the Bulldogs along with one from
Sarah Hoensheid which landed on goal. Fischer, Zoli, Mckenna Mahoney,
Kaitlyn Dake,
Sydney Anderson,
Teagan Bergeron,
Josie Huber, and
Zoe Blanchard played all 90 minutes for Adrian.
During Wednesday night's match, a new face was at the helm of the Bulldogs as assistant coach
Justin Tobin filled in for head coach
Ali Alamdari who was battling illness.
"First off, a huge thanks to assistant coach
Justin Tobin and the entire team for stepping up this week while I was limited by COVID protocols," said Alamdari. "While it made some aspects of our preparation and communication a little different, we did our best to treat it like any other game against a top side. The ladies executed a demanding game plan and stayed focused and disciplined throughout the entire match. It's a well-earned point against a top-10 team, and we'll look to build on that momentum as we hit the home stretch of MIAA play."
The Bulldogs will head out on the road for a non-conference match against Augustana College on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 PM CST.
