ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian Women's Soccer Team Tied Kalamazoo 1-1 Saturday Afternoon
Â
How It Happened
Â
Fifth year senior
McKenna Mahoney opened up Saturday's match with a penalty kick goal at the 18:34 mark in the first half. Mahoney scored her fourth goal of the season this afternoon, and scored in back-to-back games for the second time this season.Â
Â
"This was a wide open game, and the wind impacted both teams' ability to settle in the midfield and possess. Instead, the game was played end to end from start to finish. Defensively, we need to be more composed under pressure... we committed several unnecessary fouls in our defensive third that put the result at risk", said Bulldogs coach
Ali Alamdari.
Â
The Bulldogs tallied 17 total shots with eight in the first half, and nine in the second. The Bulldogs concluded the game with seven shots on target for the afternoon. Â
Â
"On the other end, we had some quality chances throughout and you have to give credit to their goalkeeper for making a handful of huge saves from point-blank range", said Alamdari.Â
Â
With this afternoon's tie, the Bulldogs have clinched a .500 regular season record or better for the ninth time in 11 seasons.Â
Â
"While the aim was to walk away with full points, this was a critical draw as it clinches a spot in the MIAA Tournament for us. We'll see how results play out around the league, and hopefully we'll have a home playoff spot on the line when we head to Alma next week", said Alamdari.
Â
Looking Ahead
Â
Alamdari and the Bulldogs close out the regular season at Alma College Wednesday, October 26, at 3:30 P.M. Â
