Tierman’s And One In Final Seconds Secures Bulldog’s Victory

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. –  The Adrian College women's basketball team fought to a thrilling road victory over Manchester University, 67-66 Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

Right out the gate, Manchester University opened up the game on a 10-3 lead with a pair of steals capping off a 7-0 run. After the first quarter, the Bulldog's would find themselves trailing by six. The second quarter was more back and forth and the Bulldogs would battle back trailing by only four points at halftime down 34-30. In the second half, however, the Bulldogs would outscore Manchester University by five points, which was enough to secure the victory on the night.

With nine seconds remaining in the game, the Bulldogs had a chance to tie or take the lead. As the clock ticked down to five seconds, Kylie Skidmore dished the ball to Julia Tierman, who drained a two pointer and drew a foul. Tierman converted and the Bulldogs would lead 67-66 with three seconds remaining in the regulation. The Spartans  had an opportunity to tie the game or lead the game after being sent to the line in the final second of the game, but failed to convert on both free throws.

Sophomore Makayla Clement would lead the Bulldogs with 16 points on the night, setting a new season high in points scored while senior Kourtney Crawford chipped in with 11 of her own. Sophomore Kylie Skidmore tied her career high in assists and junior Julia Tierman would set a new career high in assists, as they both dished out six each this evening.

Jordan Phillips and Makayla Clement led the Bulldogs from behind the arch tonight, as they shot a combined 40% from distance, knocking down four threes in the process.

Historical Notes

Tonight marked the seventh time that the Bulldogs would face the Spartans in a matchup that began in the 1989-90 season. Since their series opening loss, the Bulldogs have compiled a 5-1 record against the Spartans in their last six matches.

With tonight's win, the Bulldog's have begun the season 1-0 on the road for the first time since the 2019-20 season, where they defeated none other than Manchester University 75-59 on Friday November 8, 2019. After tonight's win over Manchester University, the women's basketball team has started the regular season 2-1 for the thirteenth time since the 1999-00 season.
