ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's basketball team defeated Earlham College 67-60 at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened
As a team, the Bulldogs recorded 26 points in the paint, 13 points off of turnovers, and provided 31 points off of the bench.
The Bulldogs had three players in double figures this afternoon: Jordan Phillips had a game high of 15 after a 40% performance behind the arch, Makayla Clement added 13 points and a block for the Bulldogs, and Kiara Wernette tied her season high of 13 points while shooting 40% from distance today.
After a back and forth first half, the Bulldogs were able to pull away with the help of a 28 point third quarter, out scoring Earlham College by 12 points in the process. The Bulldogs would shoot 50% from distance in the third quarter while knocking down three three-pointers.
The Bulldogs saw their largest lead of the afternoon at 11 twice, after a free throw made by Morgan Babb to put the Bulldogs ahead 60-49 with 8:16 in the fourth and a jumper made by Julia Tierman increased Adrian's lead to 62-51 with 6:04 remaining in the game.
Historical Notes
With this afternoon's victory, the Bulldogs have improved their undefeated record against Earlham College to 3-0. Additionally, the women's basketball team has put together a three game winning streak for the first time since the 2018-19 season where they ultimately strung four in a row between January 16, 2019-January 26, 2019.
The Bulldogs have started the regular season 3-1 for the eighth time since the 2000-01 season. On Tuesday, November 22 the Bulldogs will try to improve their record to 4-1 against Siena Heights, a feat the team has only accomplished three times since the 2001-02 season.
