NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Adrian College NCAA women's hockey team competed in the annual East West Tournament hosted by Norwich University. The Bulldogs entered the competitive tournament as the No. 3 team in the country. The Bulldogs picked up a 4-3 win over No. 5 Norwich on Saturday followed by a battle with No. 4 Plattsburgh State on Sunday where Adrian lost 1-0.
On Saturday, Norwich jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
Jessica VonRuden scored unassisted to tie the game 1-1, but Norwich responded to lead 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
Zoe Lohrei scored in the second period to tie the game 2-2 which was followed by a goal from
Une Bjelland to take a 3-2 lead.
Early in the third period,
Karmen Anderson made it a 4-2 on a goal 36 seconds into the period. Norwich scored later in the period but it wasn't enough to force overtime.
On Sunday, Adrian and Plattsburgh battled to the end with Plattsburgh winning 1-0. With three minutes left in the game, Plattsburgh scored on a power play to pick up the win. Adrian totaled 22 shots on goal on Sunday after totaling 30 shots on goal the night before.
Sophie Goldberg played both games in goal for Adrian on the weekend totaling 40 saves.
VonRuden and Goldberg earned All-Tournament Team honors as announced at the end of the tournament.
The Bulldogs will take some time off before returning home for a two-game series against Suffolk at the Arrington Ice Arena. The series will take place on January 6-7 at 7PM and 3PM.
