OBERLIN, Ohio – The Adrian College men's basketball team traveled on the road for a non-conference matchup against Oberlin College on Tuesday evening. Things didn't go as planned for the Bulldogs as they fell to Oberlin 66-56. Mashawn Sayles led the offense with 15 points for the black and gold but it wasn't enough to pull out the win.
The game started close with the score tied 7-7 with 13:23 to play in the first half. Oberlin sparked a 10-0 run which ended with 7:31 left in the half on basket from
Josh Rechsteiner. Adrian picked up the defense late in the half holding Oberlin scoreless for the final four minutes and thirty seconds.
Kendall Bellamy scored followed by another basket from
Deonta Pearson to bring the score to 27-17 in favor of Oberlin at the half.
The Bulldogs cut into the lead to start the second half with three-pointers from
Jesse Lawson Jr. and
Victor Sheffey to make the score 29-25. Oberlin went on another run to lead by 20 with nine minutes to go. Sayles nailed a three-point basket followed by a free throw from Bellamy to cut into the lead. The Bulldogs began knocking down shots from deep as they scored their final 18 points from beyond the arch, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Sayles finished with 15 points on 5-for-9 from three-point land. Sheffey recorded ten points for Adrian followed by nine from Bellamy and Lawson. Bellamy added eight rebounds and four assists on the night to lead the team.
Adrian will have a short break before hosting Otterbein University on Thursday, December 15 at 7:00 PM.
