GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – The Adrian College women's basketball team began the Puerto Rico Sports Tour with a 74-43 victory over Mount Holyoke, Thursday afternoon. Three Bulldogs scored in double figures today, including
Makayla Clement, who had a game high 16 points.
How It Happened
Today's 74-43 victory over Mount Holyoke marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs. With the victory, the Bulldogs snapped a six-game losing streak and saw multiple scoring runs against the Lyons.
As a team, the Bulldogs started fast right out of the opening tip-off, scoring seven unanswered points. The run was capped off by a three-pointer from freshman
Morgan Babb. The Bulldogs would go on a second 7-0 run during the quarter propelling them to a 16-8 lead. At the end of the first quarter of play, the Bulldogs would lead 18-10.
When the second quarter began, a
Sara Serbantez layup gave the Bulldogs a ten-point cushion, doubling their lead over the Lyons 20-10. The Bulldogs would end the quarter on an 18-4 run to lead 42-23 heading into the break.
Keeping up the same energy from the first half of play, the Bulldogs would begin the second half with another scoring run. This time, scoring 11 unanswered points, which was capped off by a personal 5-0 spurt by sophomore
Makayla Clement. Clement knocked down a three-pointer and made a layup in back-to-back possessions for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs would enter the fourth quarter with a comfortable 62-31 lead over Mount Holyoke College and would not look back as they closed out the 74-43 victory.
Top Dawgs
Jordan Phillips recorded 11 rebounds, swatted three blocks, and had three steals for the game. The junior from Midland High School would record career highs in all three statistical categories this afternoon.
Along with
Makayla Clement's game-high 16 points,
Olivia Green scored in double figures with 12 points and
Sara Serbantez added 11 for the Bulldogs.
As a team, the Bulldogs scored 16 points from the charity stripe and out rebounded Mount Holyoke 31-17.
