Men's Hockey Wins Oswego State Tournament with Wins over Williams and Oswego State

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team resumed action on Friday and Saturday in a two-game tournament hosted by Oswego State. The Bulldogs opened the tournament with Williams College coming away with a 3-1 victory on Friday followed by a 3-2 victory on Saturday over No. 9 Oswego in the Championship game.
 
On Friday night, the Bulldogs struck first on an early goal from John Kaljian to lead 1-0. Connor May and Mathew Rehding added assists on the opening goal. Later in the period, Williams tied things up to bring the score to 1-1 entering the first intermission.
 
In the second period, Austin Clyne netted a goal for Adrian with assists from Zachary Heintz and Bradley Somers. Four minutes later, Sam Ruffin extended the lead to make it 3-1 resulting in the final score after a scoreless third period.
 
Nic Tallarico got the start in goal for Adrian on Friday afternoon recording 19 saves.
 
Adrian was then tasked with No. 9 Oswego State in the Championship game of the tournament on Saturday afternoon. It was a battle to the end with the Bulldogs taking a 3-2 victory. The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 after the first period and later allowed another Oswego goal early in the second to trail 2-0.
 
Ty Enns got the offense going for the Bulldogs as he scored back-to-back goals. He scored at 5:45 in the second period on assists from Jaden Shields and Ruffin before scoring with just over two minutes to go in the period to tie the game 2-2. Ruffin and Shields recorded assists on the second goal.
 
Late in the third period it was the Ruffin, Shields, and Enns trio again who went on to light the lamp. Ruffin netted the game winning goal with three minutes to play on assists from Shields and Enns.
 
Dershahn Stewart earned the start in goal on Saturday where he totaled 30 saves including 12 in the third period alone to hold Oswego State scoreless.
 
The Bulldogs move to 9-2-1 on the season and will resume action on Wednesday, January 4 at 7PM against Stevenson University at the Arrington Ice Arena.
