ADRIAN, Mich. - On Saturday afternoon, the Adrian women's basketball team closed the book on another campaign at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center, dropping a 70-34 decision to Trine University. The Bulldogs (8-16, 5-11 MIAA) now turn their attention to the upcoming conference playoffs.
Facing their second ranked opponent in as many games, the black and gold held their ground through the opening ten minutes. In the second frame, however, the Thunder erupted for 34 points, including eight three-pointers, to put the contest out of the reach.
The two sides traded one-point leads in the early stages of the afternoon, with Adrian sneaking ahead 4-3 on a layup by
Katy Shannon. The visitors subsequently responded with a 9-3, pushing them in front by five points after one quarter.
In the ultimately-deciding quarter, Trine quickly found its rhythm from behind the three-point line, knocking down seven straight on seven attempts at one point to build a healthy cushion on the hosts.
Despite keeping things closer in the second half, the 'Dogs could not recover from Trine's downpour.
In their final career game in Adrian, Shannon and
Chelsea Palmer each scored a team-high six points. The latter of the two added seven rebounds.
Rylee Campbell and
Alexis Sillman also made appearances for the black and gold in their final home game, coming off the bench late.
The Bulldogs' postseason run will begin next week on the road. The time and location of the match-up is yet to be determined.
