ADRIAN, Mich. - At the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center, the Adrian Acrobatics and Tumbling team opened its 2022 campaign against the Falcons of Concordia University-Wisconsin. In the first meet of the season, the visitors came away victorious by a final score of 232.245 to 227.675.
The Falcons built a solid advantage with a near-three-point win in the Compulsory portion of the meet. Then, in the subsequent Acro slate, the 'Dogs recovered some ground, pulling within a point-and-a-half of their opposition. The first heat of
Joelle Howard, Gabby Barksdale,
Hannah Jakaus and Lizzie Wirth compiled a winning-mark of 8.500, while the second heat of
Hailey Brower,
Courtney Moore,
Payton Young,
Leah Canterbury and
Morgan Seavolt drew the home side even closer with a score of 8.700.
After a narrow defeat in the Pyramid segment, the Bulldogs' deficit grew back above two points by halftime.
In the afternoon's second half, Adrian received strong efforts from
Alex Turi,
Trinity Smith, Brower,
Alessandra Gigliotti and
Julia Hattley to open the Tumbling portion, with the highlight of the event coming from
Alex Turi's individual open score of 8.375.
However, the Falcons were able to hold onto their lead, courtesy of a win in the Team Event.
The Bulldogs face a swift turnaround when they travel to Indiana on Wednesday to challenge Trine University at 7 p.m.
