ADRIAN, Mich. - At Docking Stadium, a quick start by the visitors was too much to overcome for the Adrian women's lacrosse team, ultimately resulting in a 16-5 defeat at the hands of Ohio Wesleyan.
Olive Stevens scored four goals for the black and gold, including each of their last three, while
Jenna Anheuser tacked on a "man-up" tally to round out the Bulldogs' (0-2) scoring.
The Battling Bishops wasted little time setting the tone on Saturday evening, racing out to a 3-0 lead after just three minutes. Despite the pace of the game slowing down from there, the victors eventually ballooned their advantage to a handful before the 'Dogs finally broke through.
Back-to-back strikes from Stevens and Anheuser in the closing moments of the first period swiftly trimmed the deficit down to 5-3 heading into the second frame. However, in that period, the Bishops put up another crooked number to restore their cushion, riding that momentum on through the second half to key Adrian at bay.
In her second-career start,
Avery Huxter made 14 saves between the posts for the Bulldogs.
The locals conclude their season-opening homestand on Wednesday, March 2 when they welcome Rochester University to Docking Stadium.
