2/26/2022 8:59:00 PM

ANGOLA, Ind. - At the 2022 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Adrian track and field team collected four individual champions, tying the program record for the most in a single-indoor season.

Three of those gold medal-worthy performances also went down as championship records, highlighting an impressive showing on the track and in the field for the Bulldogs.

Senior Derek Plitt led the way for the black and gold, capturing his third consecutive MIAA indoor title in the 200-meter dash with a meet-record time of 21.91. Earlier in the day, the Coloma, Michigan native also earned top honors in the 60-meter sprint, breaking championship-record time in not only the preliminary heat (6.84), but the final heat as well (6.79).

Plitt becomes Adrian's first-ever three-time MIAA indoor champion in a single event, and is also the second Bulldog in four years to sweep the 60 and 200-meter dashes, joining Randy Fry, whom the meet record were previously owned by.

Prior to Plitt's appearances on the track, Cameron Overmyer was making history of his own, becoming the black and gold's first-ever MIAA indoor champion in the pole vault. The freshman's effort of 4.50 meters came only 0.15 meters shy of the championship record.

Adrian's fourth and final individual champion of the day came in women's high jump, an event the 'Dogs dominated. Sophomore Cailey Beaudoin claimed conference gold with a meet-record leap of 1.63 meters, successfully defending her title from a season ago. Her teammate Ciara Heslet was not far behind, finishing in second-place with a personal-best distance of 1.60 meters.

Elsewhere for the Bulldogs, Weston Kvalevog turned in a runner-up jump of 1.92 meters in the high jump; Joshua Light (3rd, 8.53) came just 0.01 seconds shy of a new career-best in the 60-meter hurdles; Rylea Mougrabi snatched a personal-record time of 1:02.58 (4th) in the 400-meter dash; Nolan Breithaupt posted top-five finishes in both the long jump (5th, 6.55 meters) and the triple jump (4th, 12.92 meters (PR)); Amanda Mathews notched a personal-best result of 10.14 meters in the triple jump; and Robert Diebold set season-highs in the 3,000-meter run (9:00.87) and the 5,000-meter race (15:30.83).

Up next for Adrian is the Polar Bear Final Qualifier, hosted by Ohio Northern University on March 4.
