GENEVA, Ill. -- The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team looked to record another sweep on Saturday as the No. 1 Bulldogs took on No. 12 Aurora University. After a 4-2 win the night before, Adrian completed the sweep with a 7-2 victory on Saturday. The Bulldogs' winning streak moves to 22 on the season and they remain undefeated in NCHA play.
The Bulldogs led 3-0 after the first period of play against the Spartans.
Zach Goberis found the back of the net to grab the first goal of the game. Just under three minutes later,
Rex Moe took advantage of a power play and netted a goal to lead 2-0. With the first period soon to end,
Dante Spagnuolo netted a goal eventually resulting in the game winner.
Ayodele Adeniye added to the Bulldog scoring in the second period on an unassisted goal to lead 4-0.
Ty Enns collected a second period goal of his own to give Adrian it's second power play goal of the game. The Bulldogs went into the locker room up 5-0 after forty minutes of play.Â
Adrian wasn't done yet as
Ryan Pitoscia scored to make it 6-0 early in the third period. Later in the period, the Bulldogs were set to the box and couldn't stop Aurora as the Spartans scored a power play go to get on the board. Three minutes later, Aurora struck again to make the score 6-2. With the clock winding down, Goberis slipped one in with seven seconds left in the game putting Adrian up 7-2 before time expired.
The Bulldogs totaled 70 shots on the day with 32 of them on target.
Cameron Gray was back in goal against on Saturday finishing with 29 saves for Adrian to remain perfect on the season.
Adrian returns home for an important series as they host No. 5 St. Norbert College who sits undefeated with Adrian in the NCHA standings. St. Norbert has two overtime wins to sit two points shy of the Bulldogs, but home ice for the entire NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs is still on the line. Game one of the series will take place at 7:00 PM on Friday night at the Arrington Ice Arena.
