Alma Utilizes Game-Ending Run to Defeat Women's Basketball on the Road

ALMA, Mich. - At Art Smith Arena, the homestanding Scots closed the evening on a 24-2 run en route to a 57-49 victory over the Adrian women's basketball team.

The Bulldogs (7-14, 4-9 MIAA) led by as many as 14 points late in the third quarter before Alma began to orchestrate its comeback, eventually moving ahead with the go-ahead bucket just over three-and-a-half minutes into the final frame.

Jordan Phillips turned in another solid effort from three-point territory, finishing 3-for-4 and 6-for-9 from the field for a team-high 15 points, while Chelsea Palmer muscled her fourth-straight double-double of the season, second against Alma and ninth overall, with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The black and gold's scoring duo each tallied eight of their totals in the game's opening quarter, helping propel the visitors to a 21-14 advantage after ten minutes. In the subsequent frame, however, Phillips and Palmer were neutralized by the Alma defense to a combined one point.

In the third quarter, back-to-back three-pointers by Kiaya Warner and Phillips sparked a 10-3 stretch for the locals to cushion their lead to 43-31. Then, another set of consecutive shots by the same pair elevated the lead to its maximum for the evening.

All told, the Bulldogs ended the contest with a 0.377 field goal percentage, garnering 26 points in the paint. The Scots, on the other hand, made a majority of their living off of Adrian turnovers, which translated to 20 points.

Wednesday evening was Adrian's final regular-season road game of the 2021-22 campaign. A three-game homestand leading up to the MIAA postseason begins on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. against Kalamazoo.
