Men's Hockey Advances to Frozen Four After 7-4 Victory over No. 7 Hobart

ADRIAN, Mich. -- For the first time since 2017, the Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team is headed to the Frozen Four in Lake Placid, New York. The No. 1 Bulldogs came away with a 7-4 victory over No. 7 Hobart College on Saturday night in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal Round.

Adrian jumped on the board first in front of the home crowd of 1,247 people. Zach Goberis found the back of the net on an assist from Matus Spodniak and Zachary Heintz. Hobart responded later in the period on the power play to head into the first intermission with a 1-1 score.

The Bulldogs came out of the break looking to pull ahead. Alessio Luciani scored the first goal of the period to take the 2-1 lead. Sam Ruffin followed it up to extend the lead with plenty of time to play. Adrian kept its foot on the gas and made it 4-1 after a goal from Matus Spodniak. Hobart responded to stop the scoring streak to put the deficit back to two. With under two minutes to play in the period, the Bulldogs made it a 5-2 with Spodniak's second goal of the game.

Headed into the third period with the score at 5-2, Hobart didn't back down netting the first goal of the period to make it 5-3. It was silent for a while before Rex Moe found the back of the net to make it 6-3. A minute and a half later, Hobart scored with the help of the extra attacked to trail 6-4. Hobart pulled its goaltender once again, but Hunter Wendt caught a pass up ice to score the empty netter to lock up the 7-4 victory.

Cameron Gray remains perfect in goal this season moving to 21-0 on the year. Gray finished the game with 24 saves.

Adrian will take on the winner of Augsburg University and St. Norbert College in the NCAA DIII Frozen Four on Friday, March 25 in Lake Placid with a chance to play for a National Championship on Saturday.
