ADRIAN, Mich. - On Wednesday afternoon, the Adrian women's tennis did not quite get the homecoming it was expecting, with morning rain showers forcing the Bulldogs' match-up with Albion College to be moved indoors to the Merillat Fieldhouse. Despite the change of location, the black and gold did their job, defeating the visiting Britons, 6-3.
It was the first time Adrian (6-6, 1-0 MIAA) had seen any action on the courts since March 3 down in Florida.
The day started off strong for the 'Dogs in doubles action. The combo of
Jules Johnson and
Regan Snyder garnered their first-ever win as a pair, defeating their opposition, 8-3. Then, a little later,
Maddison Wagner and
Liv Depies secured their third-straight victory with an 8-2 defeat of Albion's Ellie Debo and Savannah McDonald.
In the singles portion of the contest,
Vasiliki Gargasoulas and Johnson kept Adrian rolling with straight-set victories.
After the Brits picked up a point to make the score 4-2, the Bulldogs locked up the match thanks to individual wins by Depies and Wagner. The win by the latter of the two was her first of the season, while Depies and Johnson each garnered their ninth tally in the win column, and Gargasoulas improved to 2-1 in the No. 2 singles slot.
The Bulldogs join up with the men to continue conference-play on Saturday when the two teams travel to Trine University.
