ANDERSON, Ind. - At Macholtz Stadium, the Adrian women's lacrosse team played its first road contest of the 2022 season, dropping an 11-7 decision to the homestanding Ravens on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs trailed 10-4 entering the fourth quarter, and were able to outscore Anderson 3-1 over the final 15 minutes, but it was ultimately not enough.
Olive Stevens and
Cassidy McGeorge led the locals with two goals each, while
Delaynie Harris turned in a team-high three points on three assists.
The home side recorded most of their damage in the first half, opening the scoring with two quick goals between 9:49 and 9:18 of the first frame.
A goal from
Carlee Casteel four minutes later drew the visitors within one, but a subsequent Ravens' goal put them back up by two just as quickly. Then, in the final minute of the period, Stevens first goal of the day, again brought the 'Dogs on Anderson's heels, only to have the home side restore its multi-goal cushion with a tally in the final moments.
Over the second and third periods, Anderson built its lead up to as many seven before a shorthanded mark from McGeorge cut the deficit to six, giving the Bulldogs a little momentum entering the final frame.
In the fourth, Adrian got to work quickly with a man-advantage strike by
Zoe Weber, her fourth of the season. Then, later on,
Brooke Barabas found the back of the net to keep the 'Dogs in contention, down 10-6.
Despite the late push by the visitors, the home side got the deal-breaker with their last goal in the closing minutes.
In goal,
Avery Huxter totaled eight saves for Adrian, who as a team, controlled the turf with 22 ground balls to Anderson's 19.
Next on the docket for women now is a return to Docking Stadium to host Heidelberg on March 9 at 7 p.m.
