ADRIAN, Mich. - This week in women's lacrosse, it's the battle of the conference's A-teams, as Adrian travels to Alma on Tuesday before returning home to host Albion on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (4-6, 0-1 MIAA) are coming off of an overtime loss to Kalamazoo on Saturday in their conference-opener, in which the team overcame a four-goal deficit in the fourth quarter to force the extra frame before ultimately falling, 12-11.
Against the Hornets, senior
Olive Stevens moved into seventh-place on the program's all-time goal-scoring list, recording her third outing of the season with at least seven goals to give her 111 for her career.
On the year, Stevens actively ranks tied for fifth in the MIAA with 40 total goals. She is also third in caused turnovers (22), and ninth in draw controls (46).
Fellow seniors
Carlee Casteel and
Brooke Barabas continue to be mighty contributors for the black and gold. The latter of the two has scored in six of the last seven games, while Casteel is averaging four points per game over Adrian's last two contests.
In goal for the 'Dogs,
Jordan Hunt and
Avery Huxter are the only pair of teammates in the league who have played in 33 percent of the team's goalie minutes and sport save percentages greater than 0.300.
Adrian's first opponent of the week, Alma College, began the 2022 campaign with nine-straight wins against non-conference foes. Since beginning league-play, however, the Scots have lost two in-a-row, including one to Albion.
Alma's Sam Peterson (66), Emma Keith (62) and Kirsten Browne (51) currently sit second, third and sixth in the MIAA in total points, respectively. Peterson, a sophomore, also ranks tied for second in total goals (50), and Keith, a junior, sits second in total assists (22) behind Albion's Chrystelle Lopez.
The Brits have relied heavily on Lopez through their 10 games so far this season. Along with her 30 assists, the senior has tallied 37 goals to help make up her conference-leading 67 total points.
Behind the likes of Lopez, Albion is 8-2 overall and on track to surpass its win-total of 10 from 2021.
All told, Alma and Albion are one-two in the MIAA in goals per game, while the Brits hold a slight-edge over the Scots in goals-allowed per game.
Both of this week's games will include live stat and live video links.
