NOTRE DAME, Ind. - At the Purcell Athletic Fields, a strong start by the homestanding Belles of Saint Mary's College propelled them past the Adrian College women's lacrosse team, 22-8.
Despite four goals from
Olive Stevens, the Bulldogs (4-10, 0-5 MIAA) could not overcome a six-goal jump by the home side in the opening quarter.
Carlee Casteel added three goals for the black and gold to extend her point-streak to six games, and
Brooke Barabas added one goal to round out the 'Dogs' scoring and bring her season-total up to 12.
Over the first half of the opening frame, the Belles fired chance after chance on the Adrian net en route to a 6-0 lead.
After a pair of goals from Stevens, and another Saint Mary's tally in between, the hosts closed off the first 15 minutes with three additional goals to make it a 10-2 scoreline, and they did not look back from there, going on to outshoot the visitors 35-14.
Stevens and Casteel were responsible for five of those shots, each, while Barabas,
Joscelyn Potter and
Zoe Weber made up the local's only other attempts.
Elsewhere on the stats sheet,
Jenna Anheuser and
Lucia Commare paced the Bulldogs with three ground ball recoveries apiece, as well as a team-high two caused turnovers by Anheuser.
In goal,
