ADRIAN, Mich. - Inside the friendly confines of the Merillat Fieldhouse, the visiting Knights of Calvin University utilized a strong start in doubles en route to a 5-4 decision over the Adrian College men's tennis team.
The Bulldogs (7-7, 2-2 MIAA) fell behind 2-1 after the first portion of competition on Wednesday afternoon, and despite drawing even with the visitors in singles action, could not overcome the early deficit.
Ryan Cuddy went 2-0 on the day to pace the black and gold on the scoresheet. In doubles, the junior picked up an 8-5 victory alongside his partner
Brandon Falk. Then, later on in the match, Cuddy improved to 8-6 overall with his fifth consecutive individual win, defeating Calvin's Stuart Johnston 6-2, 6-3.
Elsewhere,
Sebastian Smith (4-2) ran his win-streak up to three matches in the No. 4 singles slot, coming back from a set-down to knock off Joseph Hong in three (3-6, 6-2, 6-0), and
Whitman Hopper (5-5) returned to the win column with a three-set thriller of his own (6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5)).
Next on the docket for Adrian is the penultimate road-match of the season at Kalamazoo on Saturday. The contest begins with the men at 11 a.m., followed by the women at 2 p.m.
