ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's lacrosse team opened the MIAA conference season at home on Saturday afternoon hosting Kalamazoo College. The Bulldogs won their fifth in a row as they defeated the Hornets 10-6 at Docking Stadium.
Chris French led the way with three goals on the afternoon for the Bulldogs.
Kalamazoo struck first to take a 1-0 lead, but
Trenton Garcia responded for Adrian to tie the game 1-1. The Bulldogs scored again four and a half minutes later from
Brett Koczenasz to make it 2-1 in favor of Adrian. Kalamazoo tied the game later in the quarter to make the score 2-2 after one quarter of play.
Three minutes into the second quarter, French netted his first goal of the game to give the Bulldogs the lead. The Hornets responded to tied the game again and head into halftime with the game tied at 3-3.
Koczenasz netted his second of the game to start the second half and put Adrian ahead. Kalamazoo tied the game onces again, but
Peyton Gasche answered to make it 5-4.
To start the fourth quarter, Kalamazoo made it a 5-5 game which was shortly answered by
Jake Coakley to go up 6-5. The Hornets tied the game at 6-6, but it was all Adrian the rest of the way. French found the back of the net off a pass from
Max Leventis right after a face off win. Gasche scored to put the Bulldogs up two goals with 6:53 to go.
Travis Fox added to the score to lead 9-6 before French finished his hat trick and locked up a 10-6 win.
Sam Spangler picked up his ninth win in goal this season for Adrian recording 13 saves and only allowing six goals.
Saturday's victory marked the 20th career win as head coach for
Brett Wetzel who sits in his fourth season at Adrian College.
The Bulldogs return to action on the road at Alma College on Tuesday, April 12 at 7:00 PM to continue the MIAA season. Adrian will return home next Saturday when they host Calvin University at 1:00 PM.
