GENEVA, Ohio – The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships took place over the weekend at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Adrian College track and field team had two members of the team qualify to nationals with
Derek Plitt running in the 100m and 200m on the men's side, and
Cailey Beaudoin competing in the high jump on the women's side.
Plitt began the weekend competing in the 200m on Thursday. The top nine finishers from the preliminary round qualified for the finals that was scheduled for Saturday. Unfortunately, Plitt fell short as he finished 11
th in the 100m with a time of 21.25 seconds which ties a personal record that he set at the MIAA Championships this season.
On Friday, Plitt went on to compete in the 100m in which he was the runner-up in the NCAA DIII Indoor Track and Field National Championships earlier this season. Again, the top nine finishers in the preliminary round qualified for the finals, but Plitt fell short finishing 16
th with a time of 10.72.
Beaudoin was competing in her first National Championship over the weekend after qualifying as a sophomore. The event started at a height of 1.56m which she completed successfully on her first attempt. At 1.61m, Beaudoin failed on her first attempt but went on to succeed on her second to advance. At 1.66m, she succeeded, went on to fall one spot shy of placing after finishing ninth after an unsuccessful attempt at 1.69m.
With the end of the National Championships, the track and field season came to an end for the year of 2022.
