Adrian College Selected as Six of Top 10 Sports Moments of 2021-22 by Daily Telegram

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The local newspaper of Lenawee County, The Daily Telegram, selected its annual top-10 moments from the past season. Out of all the great moments from Adrian College, other colleges in the county, and all the high schools near by, six of the Bulldogs' season moments were tabbed in the top-10.

No. 1 Adrian College wins men's hockey title
To no surprise, the Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team bringing home the school's first NCAA National Championship was ranked No. 1. The Bulldogs pulled off a historical season dropping the first game of the season while missing multiple starters due to COVID-19, and went on to win 31 games in a row. Adrian clinched the No. 1 seed to the Harris Cup Playoffs with a perfect 18-0 record in NCHA play which was followed by four wins in the Harris Cup Playoffs to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. From there, the Bulldogs defeated Hobart to head to Lake Placid for the Frozen Four. Adrian took care of business in the semifinals with a 5-1 win over Augsburg which was followed by a 5-2 victory over SUNY Geneseo in the National Championship game.

No. 2 Duffy retires
The man that has served as the face of Adrian College Athletics for quite sometime now announced his retirement. Michael Duffy was a 1982 graduate of Adrian College where he spent his time in school on the football team before becoming a longtime coach, and eventually athletic director in 2006. At the time of his promotion to athletic director, Adrian College had an enrollment of 800 and only 16 athletic programs. Duffy bought into the new model set by President Jeffrey R. Docking on boosting enrollment through athletics. As Duffy continued to buy in and follow the new model, Adrian College now has an enrollment of 1,850 and 50 athletic programs. Duffy officially retires at the end of June and head baseball coach, Craig Rainey, will take over as athletic director while continuing to coach baseball. Meg Sharp, Bill Schindel, Gary Astalos, and Adam Krug will serve as assistant athletic directors.

No. 4 Nowicki wins second national title
Zoe Nowicki of the Adrian College women's wrestling team won another national title during the 2022 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship (NCWWC). The NCWWC began in 2019 where Adrian College served as the first host. It returned to Adrian College in 2022 where Nowicki was able to win a national championship on her home mat. Nowicki wrestled at the 136 weight class where she received an opening round bye. In the second round, Nowicki won by fall in 1:49 followed by a 10-0 win by tech fall in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal, Nowicki won 8-4 by decision to head to the championship round where she came away with a 4-0 victory to move to 37-1 on the year and win a national championship. With the first place finish, Nowicki was named an All-American as was teammate Nyla Burgess where finished fourth at 155 helping lead the team to an eighth place overall finish.

No. 6 Wurzer breaks Adrian College passing records
Quarterback Jack Wurzer entered his final season for the Adrian College football team in the fall of 2021. Wurzer made it one to remember as he rewrote the record books breaking the Adrian College record for most touchdown passes in a career and most passing yards in a career. Wurzer finished his career with 8,062 yards passing and 66 touchdown passes to pull ahead of Mike McGee (2007-10) who finished his career with 49 touchdowns and 6,643 passing yards. In his final season for the Bulldogs, Wurzer played in all ten games on the season completing 135 passes on 237 attempts with 1,863 yards and 18 touchdowns. He averaged 186.30 yards passing with a completion percentage of 56.96% and a quarterback rating of 139.62. Wurzer also added four touchdowns rushing on the season.

No. 7 Ryan Dorow make MLB debut

Dorow was selected in the 30th round of the 2017 MLB draft. His began the 2021 season in Double-A where he hit .333 through 24 games to get promoted to Triple-A. Dorow continued to hit in Triple-A where he held a .210 batting average with 13 doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 16 RBIs at the time of his call-up to the MLB.  Dorow was up for ten games with the Rangers where he made his debut against Cleveland on August 26 at third base.
