SANDUSKY, Ohio -- The Adrian College women's volleyball team opened its weekend at the Great Lakes Crossover Tournament at Cedar Point. The Bulldogs played four matches during the two days and finished 3-1 on the weekend. Adrian went on to drop the opening match 3-2 to Geneva College, but went on to win the next three matches in a 3-2 win over Allegheny College, a 3-0 win over Capital University, and a 3-2 win over Waynesburg University.
Amber Morris led the way in the first match of the tournament with 16 kills.
Destiny Johnson finished the match with five kills along with five from
Mallory Dorow and five from
Hailey Farrell. Farrell recorded 20 assists during the match while
Mya Minjares finished with 26 digs. Johnson added 11 blocks on the day which finishes second in program history in most blocks in a single match.
The Bulldogs bounced back against Allegheny taking the match 3-2. Adrian won the first, third, and fifth set by scores of 25-21, 25-22, and 15-11. Morris led the team with 15 kills followed by 13 kills from
Ainsley Page. Farrell racked up 39 assists while Minjares finished with 22 digs.
Adrian began Saturday with a sweep over Capital with set wins of 25-19, 25-24, and 25-18. Morris recorded 16 kills for Adrian followed by eight from Page and five from
Kayla Chan. Farrell added 33 assists in the sweep while Minjares added 16 digs.
The Bulldogs finished the day with a five-set victory over Waynesburg winning the first set 25-13, the third set 25-17, and the fifth set 15-8. Morris added 12 kills for Adrian followed by ten from Dorow. Farrell added 41 assists on the afternoon while Minjares recorded 41 digs followed by ten from
Emma Thackery and
Amelia McCombs.
Adrian starts the year 3-1 for the first time since 2016. The Bulldogs will look to expand on its winning record on Tuesday, September 6 when they take on Heidelberg University on the road at 6:30 PM.
