TIFFIN, Ohio -- The Adrian College football team opened the season at Heidelberg University on Saturday night with primetime football against the Student Princes. Things didn't go as planned for the Bulldogs as they fell to Heidelberg 31-0.
Heidelberg took an early lead after scoring on its first drive on a 63-yard touchdown pass to lead 7-0. The Bulldogs had an opportunity to get on the board later in the first quarter with a field goal, but the kick was blocked and kept Adrian scoreless. Heidelberg added a late first half field goal to lead 10-0 at halftime.Â
The Student Princes came out in the second half looking to add on. Heidelberg added a touchdown in the third quarter to lead 17-0 followed by a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter followed by a pick-6 late in the game.
The Bulldog defense forced its fair share of turnovers with a forced fumble from
Kyle Minder along with interceptions from
Brandon Kwiatkowski and
Tyrelle Deener. Minder led the team with ten tackles with nine of them being solo tackles. Minder also recorded a sack for a loss of 12 yards while
Tche Leroux recorded a pair of sacks as well.
Noah Heide led the team with 71 yards passing on six completions while
Aaron Jenkins finished with nine completions for 62 yards. Jenkins led the team in rushing with 69 yards followed by 20 from
Jimmie Clark. On the receiving end,
Kenny Kujawa finished the day with four receptions for 63 yards followed by three receptions for 33 yards from
Jalan Minney.
Tyler Poirier caught seven passes for 30 yards.
Adrian looks to put together a better performance next Saturday when they host Hanover College on September 10 at 1:00 PM.
