ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's NCAA hockey team opened its weekend at home against Lawrence University. The Bulldogs came away with a large victory of 14-0. Three players for Adrian recorded hat tricks while
Une Bjelland set a pair of Adrian records.
Kaleigh Cadorette began the scoring in the first period four and a half minutes into the game. Later in the period,
Une Bjelland netted a power play goal to lead 2-0.
Jessica VonRuden added another goal in the first period followed by Bjelland's second of the game to lead 4-0 at the intermission.
In the second period, VonRuden netted her second goal of the game to lead 5-0. Cadorette followed the goal with her second of the game 34 seconds later to lead 6-0. Later in the period,
Jessica Anderson scored to extend the lead followed by a hat trick goal from Cadorette to lead 8-0 at the second intermission.
In the third period,
Allie Hubenschmidt scored her first collegiate go to extend the lead. Bjelland added another goal to collect her hat trick followed by a hat trick goal from VonRuden. Bjelland scored again to grab her fourth goal of the night which was followed by a power play goal from
Kathryn Truban. With less than a minute to go, Bjelland scored again to bring the final score to 14-0.
Bjelland broke the record for most points in a single game by a player along with most goals in a game by a single player as she finished the day with eight points and five goals.
Vanessa Ruban made her collegiate debut on Friday night with a light afternoon of work. Ruban finished the game with seven saves to grab her first win.
With Friday's victory, head coach
Shawn Skelly is one win shy of his 100
th career win. Adrian will look to get Skelly his milestone win on Saturday, January 14 at 12:00 PM when they finish the series against Lawrence.
