HIRAM, Ohio – The Adrian College men's volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 set deficit to defeat NCAA Division II Alderson Broaddus 3-2 Friday afternoon. Four Bulldogs scored ten or more points including junior Andrew Gawrisch, who recorded 11 points and 25 assists.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs found themselves down early Friday afternoon, after Alderson Broaddus prevailed on two opening set series. The Bulldogs had been outscored by an average of three points and quickly found their backs against the wall in a 2-0 deficit. Facing adversity in their first game of the season, coach Jose Soto and his squad found a way to win.
The Bulldogs had a slim two-point lead at 24-22 late in the third set and capitalized on a service error from Alderson Broaddus. The Bulldogs would pounce on the error with a kill by
Beck Fieldhouse, allowing the team to win their first set of the match. Now down 2 sets to 1, the Bulldogs got to work.
The men's volleyball team continued to capitalize on their opponent's mistakes. During the pivotal fourth set, the Bulldogs would find themselves down again trailing by three. Despite the odds, the Bulldogs stayed composed. The men's volleyball team was able to secure 12 of their 25 points by errors from Alderson Broaddus.
Riding the team's momentum into the last set,
Chase Heuer and Fieldhouse combined for four kills in the later half of the final set, propelling the Bulldogs to a 15-13 closeout win over Alderson Broaddus.
Top Dawgs
Fieldhouse led all players with 20 points in the afternoon, setting himself a career high in points.
Zach Molnar, Heuer, and Gawrisch also hit the double digit mark in points scored. Together the four teammates combined for 60 of the 66 points tonight for the Bulldogs.
Junior Jacob Rembulat recorded a game high 14 digs. With his performance, Rembulat recorded his most digs in a game since January 14, 2022 where he put up 13 digs against Siena Heights.
Heuer put together a great all-around performance tallying 11 points and amassing a game high 35 total attacks for the Bulldogs. Heuer ended the afternoon also with four digs and two total blocks.
Gawrisch scored 11 points off of 14 total attacks tonight. Gawrisch, a junior out of Glenbard West recorded 25 assists setting a team high for the Bulldogs this evening.
Historical Notes
This afternoon, the Bulldogs captured their first season opening victory for the first time since the 2020 season, when they defeated Lawrence Tech 3-0. Additionally, after this afternoon's victory, the Bulldogs claim a 2-0 series lead over Alderson Broaddus all-time.

The Bulldogs will conclude the Hiram Quad with a double header tomorrow Saturday, January 21, starting at 2:00 PM in a clash against Kentucky State University.
