Men's Basketball Falls to No. 21 Trine in MIAA Battle

ADRIAN, Mich. —  In the Merillat on Wednesday night the Adrian College men's basketball team took on the visiting Thunder of Trine University who are ranked 21st nationally. The Bulldogs looked to end a 5-game losing skid against the Thunder.

The Bulldogs started the game with a couple turnovers but eventually got things going and scored after Trine was up 3-0. Josh Rechsteiner tied things up 3-3, after a good bucket and converted the free throw after the foul. Adrian came back down the floor as Michael Rightnowar made a layup to put Adrian up 5-3. The Bulldogs last had the lead at the 12:31 mark in the first half, 11-10, after a Victor Sheffey three-point bucket. Trine tied things back up and eventually took the lead. The Thunder would then hold the lead for the rest of the game and ended the first half up 39-31.

The second half was underway and Trine came out striking, leading by as many as 12. The Bulldogs played tough defense but could not keep the turnovers at a minimum. Trine capitalized off the turnovers, only allowing the Bulldogs to get within seven points. The Thunder prevailed by the end of the game taking the contest 76-64.

De'Ovion Price led the Bulldogs with 22 points on the night after a quiet first half with five. Nick Seifert chipped in 18 points as well. The biggest thing for the Bulldogs tonight was their outstanding free throw shooting going 18-for-19 from the foul line with Price finishing 8-for-8.

The Bulldogs drop to 5-13 (2-5 MIAA) on the season and will be back in action on Saturday in Grand Rapids at Calvin University where tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
