ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team opened its two-game series at home with the Concordia Wisconsin Falcons on Friday evening. The Bulldogs came away victorious with an 8-2 win over the Falcons.
Mathew Rehding and
Alessio Luciani finished the day with a pair of goals each while
Matus Spodniak contributed five assists on the night.
Rehding put the Bulldogs on the board early in the game with a goal just over a minute played. Halfway through the period, Concordia Wisconsin tied the game on a power play to make it 1-1. It was Rehding again who broke the tie to put Adrian up 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
It was all Bulldogs in the second as they totaled three goals to extend the lead to 5-1.
Sam Ruffin picked up the first goal of the period followed by a power play goal from
Ryan Pitoscia. With just over a minute to go in the second, Luciani netted a goal to extend the lead to four.
In the third, the Falcons kicked in a goal making it 5-2, but back came the Bulldogs.
Jacob Suede put himself in the box score with a goal followed by a power play goal from
Chase Spencer. After a goaltender change by Concordia Wisconsin, Luciani scored his second goal of the game to secure the 8-2 win.
Dershahn Stewart got the start in goal for Adrian facing 12 shots and making ten saves. The Bulldogs out-shot the Falcons 64-12 on the night and won 42 out of 68 faceoffs.
Spodniak's five assist night finished tied for second in program history for most assists in a single game. Five assists by an individual has happened five times in program history prior to tonight by Shawn Skelly (2011), Quinn Walker (2008), Mike Dahlinger (2010), Kyle Brothers (2017), and current head coach Adam Krug. Krug's five assists night came in 2008 against Concordia Wisconsin. Dahlinger holds the program record with six assists in a game against Northland College in 2009.
Adrian picks up its 15
th win of the season and moves to 9-3-1. The Bulldogs will look to sweep the series tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM.
