ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's basketball team won a 56-54 thriller over Olivet Wednesday evening at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center. Junior Julia Tierman had a team high 14 points in tonight's victory.
How It Happened
Three Bulldogs scored in double figures during Wednesday evening's win over Olivet. Junior Julia Tierman led the Bulldogs with 14 points, shooting 6-13 from the field. Joining her in the scoring margin was Jordan Philips who scored 12 points on the night, and senior Kiara Wernette, who chipped in with 10 for the Bulldogs.
Tonight's game was intense, with neither team gaining a sizable advantage over the other. However, the Bulldogs thrived off of their home court advantage and their enthusiastic fans supporting them from the bleachers. The turning point of the game occurred during the fourth quarter after Olivet tied it at 41 apiece with 8:26 remaining. The Bulldogs responded, taking off on an extended 11-4 run to lead 54-49 with 2:48 remaining in the contest. Kiara Werenette sparked the run and was responsible for scoring or assisting on 7 of the 11 points. After Wernette's tie-breaking jumper, the Bulldogs would find themselves with the lead in the final 7:54 remaining in the game.
Jordan Phillips Three Point Percentage Tracker
After tonight's 3-8 performance from distance, sophomore Jordan Phillips sits nine three pointers away from cracking into the top-ten all-time career three point percentage list (minimum 60 threes made). Currently, Karen Baird (1989-93) holds the tenth spot in all-time career three point percentage for the Bulldogs at 32.2% (110 threes made). After tonight's game, Phillips currently has made 51 three pointers over the course of her career while shooting 35.9% from distance.
Historical Notes
The Bulldogs have now won six straight games over Olivet dating back to January 18, 2020 and have won 10 out of the past 12 contests in the series. The last time the Bulldogs won six or more contests against the Comets was when the Bulldogs put up 21 straight wins from 1991-2000.
